I unsuspectingly began my career in Real Estate at the age of 21 with purchase of my first student housing income property. This quickly grew into the management of multiple properties and inevitably the purchase of more properties in Waterloo Region and Centre Wellington. Possessing a strong mechanical background I graduated from Conestoga College in the Industrial Maintenance Mechanic/Millwright program. A Property Manager was born.

 

Less than 10 years later I decided (with the help of contributing factors) to obtain my license to practice the ‘clean side’ of Real Estate as a full time career. There were certainly some bumps and challenges along the way but staying the course was what I focused on. In 2008 I had the absolute pleasure of becoming partners with one of the industry’s most respected and successful Brokers, Glen Kelley.

 

Working for a large national franchise at the time, we began branding our marketing as Your Hometown Realtors. We felt our community minded hands on approach was better illustrated through this. We were right. Because of the support of our community and loyal clientele we were able to create Your Hometown Realty, a boutique Brokerage that services locally and markets globally.

 

Since beginning my journey in organized Real Estate, I have had the pleasure of serving on many committees and task forces, being a proud supporter and contributor to local events and organizations. I have had and continue to have a large presence within the Guelph and District Association of Realtors as well as our Provincial association, rising through the ranks and possessing the title of Past President. Sales awards are nice and certainly highlight successes in productivity however my most coveted awards are knowing I’ve done my best to improve as a person, improve where I live and improve my industry.

Having lived and worked in Centre Wellington and Guelph for the last 20+ years, I have grown to discover that there is no other place I would rather be. As a mother to three young children, community involvement is paramount to me both personally and professionally. I take pride in knowing that this community is one of the best in Ontario to live and raise a family.

Having begun my real estate career as an administrator, an assistant and then as a real estate clerk at a law firm, my background knowledge serves me, and in turn my clients, well. I come from a professional background of restaurant management, so customer service, work ethic and integrity have always been a priority for me.

I am thrilled to be a part of the team at Your Hometown Realty. Their sense of community and pride in our area is evident, and I am excited to be a part of that enthusiasm. The wealth of knowledge and friendly office atmosphere makes for a wonderful place to work. I look forward to continuing my career at “Hometown” and endeavour to help clients and friends (and clients who become friends) navigate the real estate markets of Elora, Fergus and Guelph.

Megan Thoms-McDougall

Megan Thoms-McDougall Born and raised in Centre Wellington, I have always enjoyed working with people and being of service to my community. Real estate has always been a personal interest of mine, and with over a decade of experience in retail banking and more than 20 years of customer service and volunteerism within the community, real estate is a natural fit for me. My personal and professional goal is to dedicate myself to the “3 C’s”: Clan, Character, and Community. My husband and I have had the great fortune of being able to raise our two young children where the roots of our both of our families are firmly planted. I began my professional career in banking at the very branch which my father commissioned to be built, and later served as manager. My husband Scott is the second generation owner of a local door and window company, a family business started by his parents. It is through their examples of hard work, honesty, and dedication to the community that I have learned what a gift and responsibility it is to use one’s skills and character to serve others. Throughout the years, I have been involved in many community organizations, including The Elora Festival, Fergus Scottish Festival, Fergus Grand Theatre, and several years serving as president of The Fairview Ladies golf club. It is with honor and pleasure that I have joined the team at Your Hometown Realty to continue my career in real estate, and look forward to helping each of our clients achieve their goals within this great community!

As a resident of Guelph and Centre Wellington since 1997, I am proud to serve my community with Your Hometown Realty. 

A REALTOR® since 2008, I have thoroughly enjoyed working with buyers and sellers to fulfill their dreams of home ownership and successfully navigate the local real estate landscape. My background in home construction and renovations comes in handy, especially with first time home buyers and for homes that need a bit (or a lot) of TLC to live up to their potential. I specialize in residential properties and enjoy the diverse variety that our region has to offer; century homes that could tell so many stories, country properties with beautiful landscapes, brand new homes that are just waiting to start their journey with their first families, and even cottages for a relaxing getaway.

Giving back to the community is extremely important to me and I enjoy being involved as both a local REALTOR® and through my farm, Harmony Meadows Alpaca. Events I sponsor are The Wellington Market,  The Fergus Highland Rugby Clubs Mini Rugby Program , The Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides and the Guelph and District Association of REALTORS®. I have been chosen to serve as President of the Association for 2018.

Born and raised on a farm in the area, I have strong ties and a deep sense of connection to this wonderful community. After living and working in the Region of Waterloo for nearly a decade, when the time came to settle down and raise our own family, my wife and I could think of nowhere else we would rather do so than back home in Centre Wellington, in the beautiful village of Elora.

In addition to my career in Real Estate, I have worked as a firefighter since 2004. Working in the Fire Service inevitably draws you into a greater sense of connection with your own community. I feel privileged to belong to the team at Your Hometown Realty, which works hard to promote a similar commitment to community involvement and contribution. For me, this is where the intersections exist between my two careers; real estate provides me with the opportunity to help people find a home and a sense of community, and at the same time to participate in the ongoing growth of this vibrant region.
